BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Cancer survivors and volunteers at the American Cancer Society's Joe Lee Griffin Hope Lodge celebrated a decade of service Saturday with a big birthday party.
Hundreds of volunteers and former guests of the lodge gathered Saturday morning to celebrate the Lodge's 10th birthday. The guests and volunteers were treated to a buffet lunch, birthday cake, and fellowship among cancer patients and their families who have stayed at the Lodge for the last decade.
The American Cancer Society says almost 3,000 families have stayed at the Hope Lodge since its opening in 2000. The American Cancer Society allows cancer patients and their caregivers who live more than 40 miles from Birmingham to stay at the Lodge for free while seeking treatment in Birmingham.
The money raised at Relay For Life events, galas, and across the state goes to fund the Hope Lodge in Birmingham. For more information on Hope Lodges across the nation or any other cancer information, call 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
