TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - The University of Alabama may explore other transit options if First Transit and its drivers do not reach a contract agreement.
Deborah Lane, assistant to the President and Assistant Vice President for University Relations, released the following statement Wednesday night to FOX6 News in regards to the contract dispute:
"The ongoing contract negotiations are between First Transit and their drivers. UA believes that the $55 an hour we pay First Transit is sufficient to allow them to pay reasonable wages to their bus operators. If First Transit fails to rapidly re-establish and maintain full and permanent bus service to the campus, the University will explore other transit options."
Drivers returned to work Tuesday one day after going on strike in a dispute with First Transit over pay and benefits. The drivers' union agreed Tuesday to return to work while continuing negotiations.
