TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - The mayor of Tuscaloosa wants firearms banned on city property and at city meetings.
Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddux is asking the city council to pass an ordinance banning weapons on city property and at city meetings. Maddux says police already enforce a gun ban, but he says he wants it in writing.
Maddux says allowing citizens to carry weapons at city meetings could put people in jeopardy and make other people feel unsafe.
"Clearly that's not the type of environment conducive to protecting city government," Maddux said.
The Tuscaloosa City Council banned city employees from bringing guns to work last year. Mayor Maddux said an ordinance banning guns on city property could come up for a vote in two weeks.
