HOOVER, AL (WBRC) - Hotels are popping up all over Hoover.
Five years ago, the Days Inn was the only hotel on Highway 150. Now there's the Hampton Inn, the Hyatt, and Microtel, among others.
Nine hotels have opened in the last five years around Hoover, with more to come.
The Homewood Suites by Hilton just opened on Riverchase Parkway.
The Embassy Suites, Holiday Inn and another Hampton Inn are all opening soon.
The city already hosts several special events like Indy Racing and the Regions Charity Golf Classic, but the mayor is working to recruit more sporting events, including cross country races. More guests are expected to come into the city for those events, so that's why he's says those extra hotel rooms are needed.
"The new event we have this year is the Hotrod tour that comes in June," said Mayor Tony Petelos. "(We'll) have thousands of hot rods cars and antique cars in this parking lot at Regions Park."
The new hotels also mean more jobs.
The city will break ground on the Hampton Inn later this month. It will be located in the Lee Branch Shopping Center off Highway 280.
