Shelby County schools to decide Friday morning

COLUMBIANA, AL (WBRC) - The Shelby County School system says it will wait until Friday morning to decide whether or not to close schools due to winter weather.

Cindy Warner, spokesperson for the school system, issued the following statement Thursday afternoon to FOX6 News:

"The Shelby County School District will make a decision on closing  school due to severe winter weather early Friday morning.  School officials will be monitoring weather conditions overnight and will have a transportation crew out surveying road conditions early Friday morning.  An annoucement will be made once those factors are determined.  

"Parents and faculty are advised to please monitor the Shelby County website at for an official annoucement in the morning and stay tuned to your local television and radio stations.  Shelby County has a Twitter account that will be updated also.  That account is: shelbyedk12alus."
