BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Two people were found dead in Birmingham on Wednesday afternoon, located less than a mile from each other and discovered within minutes of each other.
Birmingham police said the first call came in at 2:25 to 911, when someone called to say a body had been found on the train tracks behind Wenonah High School. The identity of the victim and the cause of the death was not yet known.
Four minutes later, police said they were called to the home of Jeff Wormley, 47, of Willard Ave. from a caller who said a dead man was there. Police found Wormley dead from a gunshot wound just inside the doorway of his home.
"He was the type of person not to hurt anyone," said Taft Perry, Wormley's cousin. "It's a shock I can't see why someone would do this to him."
No arrests had been made. Anyone with information was asked to call the Birmingham Police Department at (205) 2547-1764 or Crime Stoppers at (205) 254-7777.
