Bingo amendment headed to Senate

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - A constitutional amendment calling for a state-wide referendum on electronic bingo is now headed to the Senate floor.

The Senate Tourism and Marketing Committee voted six-to-two in favor of the amendment, written by Democratic Senator Roger Bedford of Russellville. Similar legislation has already been introduced in the House.

Both versions would establish at least one bingo hall in all seven congressional districts. Existing casinos would be grand-fathered in, without penalty. A gaming commission would also be created to regulate the casinos.
