The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Tuesday, February 9, 2010:
Electronic Bingo…Our airways are filled with news and commercials discussing the pros and cons of this issue. If electronic bingo businesses stay closed, how many jobs will be lost? How much revenue will leave our state, to be reaped by our neighbors? There are those who say…if it's legal, tax it for the benefit of our citizens. Would that provide an alternative to adding to our tax burden? Is it a good idea to have gambling pay for what government can't afford?
For others, it's simple. It's immoral. If electronic bingo…gambling…is embraced, it will compromise our values and change Alabama's culture.
With all of the discussion about electronic bingo, has there been a shift in sentiment? If we looked back a few years, would we find more folks on one side or the other of the electronic bingo debate? Where do you stand on this issue?
