Corruption trial begins for Bessemer City Council member

BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) - Opening statements are underway in the corruption trial of Bessemer City Council member Louise Alexander.

Alexander is accused of soliciting money from businessman Stan Pate. Prosecutors allege that Pate gave Alexander checks totaling $17,775 which were made payable to the City of Bessemer and Abrams Elementary School. Prosecutors allege Alexander pocketed the money.

Alexander has pleaded not guilty.
