BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Two big announcements were made by Republican candidate for governor Robert Bentley on Monday.
He made a stop in Birmingham on his campaign tour.
Bentley says there is pending legislation that would give companies a deduction on their taxes for hiring someone off the unemployment roll and keeping them in a job for a year.
He also made a bold promise that will affect his own pocketbook. "To identify with people that unemployed, I will not take the salary of governor until unemployment reaches full employment which would be approximately five to six percent," said Bentley.
Bentley is one of seven people on the ballot for June's Republican primary.
