Two arrested in jewelry store robbery

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Two people were arrested Tuesday in connection with a jewelry store robbery.

Birmingham Police, in a statement to FOX6 News, said the suspects were arrested in connection with a robbery that happened earlier in the day at the Midas Jewelry Store on Bessemer Road.  Police said the suspects entered the store, showed automatic handguns, grabbed an undetermined amount of jewelry and fled in a white, four-door vehicle.

Birmingham police officers from the West Precinct saw the vehicle a short time later wreck on 31st Street in Ensley. The officers arrested the two suspects after a short foot pursuit.  The jewelry and a handgun were recovered at the scene.

No one was hurt.  The identity of the suspects was not immediately available.
