Man receives 14 years in prison for child porn charge

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – A Tuscaloosa man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to child pornography charges.

37-year-old Steven Patrick Riffe will serve his time in prison, then will remain on supervised release for life and will have to register as a sex offender.

Riffe pleaded guilty in September after a federal grand jury indicted him on receiving and possessing child pornography in July of 2009. The U.S. Attorney's Office says Riffe had more than 7,000 child pornography images on his computer and used a file-sharing program. Some of the images depicted the rape of children under 12-years-old.

"It is hard to imagine the depraved nature that leads anyone to want to view such images of horror brought upon children," said U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance. "Children must be protected from such abuse and degradation, and we will prosecute these cases with fervor."
