MOBILE COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - Norfolk Southern officials are reporting that a train accident happened around 9:45 Tuesday night in a rural area north of Mobile.
An empty coal train with 67 cars was approaching a train trestle when they noticed that it was on fire.
The conductor applied the emergency brakes and the train came to a halt on the trestle.
The engineer and a conductor jumped from the train on to the burning trestle and both were badly burned.
They were air lifted to a hospital in mobile where they are in critical condition.
The cause of the fire is under investigation
