Jacksonville passes ban on texting while driving

JACKSONVILLE, AL (WBRC) - An issue that is expected to receive attention at the state level is a ban on texting while driving.
     
One city in east Alabama got ahead of state lawmakers by passing its own ban.
    
On Monday night, the Jacksonville City Council voted unanimously to make texting behind the wheel a misdemeanor. Fines range from $50 for a first offense to $500 dollars for a third ticket within a year.

The ordinance goes into effect March first.
