Bowl boosts local economy

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Thousands of fans were in Birmingham over the weekend for the Bowl.

The University of Connecticut beat the South Carolina gamecocks 20-7, but Uconn was not the only winner. The local economy is expected to see millions from this weekend's event.

Fans spent their time and money visiting area restaurants and stores, many of which went the extra mile to accommodate the crowds.

The bowl game comes on the heels of another major sporting event, the T-mobile Invitational at Samford University. Together the events are expected to generate up to 10 million dollars.
