Missing plane found wrecked in east Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A missing single-engine plane was found today in a wooded area near Heflin, a town about 15 miles east of the Georgia-Alabama line.

The flight departed Pell City on Christmas Eve en route to Cobb County, Georgia, just outside Atlanta.

It never made it. The sole passenger, which was the pilot, was found deceased.

Civil Air Patrol units from Georgia and Alabama in concert with local rescue crews searched  throughout Christmas Day for the plane.

It was located around 6pm.
