BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) Birmingham's next mayor will inherit a tough job when it comes to the city's finances.
Whether the next mayor is William Bell or Patrick Cooper, he will inherit a city with $21 million in unbudgeted expenses, declining revenue and the prospect of significant program cuts. Both men have come up with plans to address the situation, as has acting Mayor Roderick Royal.
Bell and Cooper agree that the city needs to bring in an outside expert to create controls so the city does not face another shortfall crisis.
Your chance to hear each candidate's plan for Birmingham's future is January 14th. FOX6 is presenting a debate between the two candidates at 9:00 p.m. The runoff election takes place the following Tuesday, January 19th.
