BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A Blount County man has been charged in connnection with several school burglaries that happened last month.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department says Christopher Adam Wood, 35, of Blount County, is charged with breaking in to several schools in Jefferson County, stealing clothing, cash and computers.
Investigators, in a statement Tuesday to FOX6 News, said Wood had been charged with burglaries at the following schools:
Pinson High School
Clay Chalkville High
Clay Chalkville Middle
Deputies said Wood was also charged by Trussville and Tarrant police departments for burglaries at the following schools:
Hewitt Trussville High
Detectives said they were able to link Wood to the crimes after getting a good description on him and his vehicle and locating
him in the Blount County jail on burglary charges stemming from break-in's in Blount County.
Items of clothing taken from Clay High School were recovered.
Investigators said Wood confessed to taking a laptop from Pinson Elementary that he said he traded for drugs. Wood also stated he mostly stole cash from various places in the schools (teachers' desks, lunchrooms, vending machines, etc.) to purchase drugs.
Deputies said Wood is also a suspect in two small business burglaries that occurred in the Chalkville area during the same time frame. Charges were pending.
Wood remained in the Blount County jail on several residential burglaries and the burglary of Oneonta High School.
