Pelham says goodbye to fallen officer

PELHAM, AL (WBRC) - Monday was a difficult day in the city of Pelham as people there said goodbye to a fallen police officer.

Officer Philip Davis was shot and killed last Thursday night during a traffic stop on I-65.

Dozens of law enforcement officers followed the hearse of Officer Davis during a procession Monday. The procession traveled down Highway 119 to Highway 31 in Pelham. Many gathered on the street in tribute to the slain police office.

A visitation and viewing followed at the Church at Brook Hills. The funeral for Officer Philip Davis takes place Tuesday morning at 11:00, also at the Church at Brook Hills.

A fund for the family of Officer Davis has been set up at America's First Federal Credit Union. You can go to any branch and tell them you would like to give to the Phillip Davis Fund.

The alleged gunman in the shooting will appear at a preliminary hearing next month. Bart Wayne Johnson's case will be before a Shelby County judge January sixth. Johnson is charged with capital murder. He is being held in the Shelby County Jail without bond.
