Alabama Unemployment Hotline having trouble with volume of calls

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - New state data shows Alabama's Unemployment Hotline hangs up on a quarter of all callers because of volume of calls.

The Department of Industrial Relations hired about 60 new workers this year at its two call centers in Birmingham and Montgomery, but it has not been enough.

In October, Alabama reported almost 227,000 people unemployed. That is almost 11 percent of the state's workforce.
