Governor Riley will visit Birmingham then light Christmas tree

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - Governor Riley will be in Birmingham Friday as part of a discussion on economic recovery and job creation. The event is being organized by the Business Council of Alabama and State Chamber of Commerce Association.
     
Governor Riley says Alabama is working harder than ever to promote growth, education and development.

Friday evening, the Governor and First Lady Patsy Riley will light the state's Christmas tree during a ceremony. It takes place at 5:15 p.m. at the state capitol.

This year's tree is a 40-foot-tall Eastern Red Cedar decorated with thousands of lights. The theme for the ceremony is "Every Light a Prayer for Peace."
