No charges to be filed in Forest Hills Middle School accident

FAIRFIELD, AL (WBRC) - Fairfield Police Chief Patrick Mardis says it does not appear any charges will be filed against 67-year-old Ada Riggs. Mardis says Riggs told investigators she lost control of her car when she accidently hit the gas instead of the brake.

Ten children and one adult were hit outside of Forest Hills Middle School after school let out Friday afternoon.

46-year-old Debra Johnson passed away hours after the accident. Most of the children who were hospitalized have been released. A few children remain in the hospital suffering from broken bones.

Chief Mardis said Riggs had not been drinking and all indications are that this was just one tragic accident.

The students who were hit were all waiting for a bus.

Counselor's will be at the school on Monday.
