Church to distribute 1000 Thanksgiving meals

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A Birmingham church is taking on a big job. They're helping feed a thousand families for Thanksgiving.

Volunteers packed sacks of food that will be given to families who can't afford a Thanksgiving Day meal.

Members of the Worship Center Christian Church say they want to be a blessing to others and they are proud to be apart of this effort.

One thousand bags of food items are ready to go, and 1500 frozen turkeys will arrive at the church Friday.

The senior pastor says this is something God laid on his heart to do.

He hopes this makes the holiday special for people going through hard times to truly give them a reason to be thankful.

"The rate of people being laid off, rate of foreclosures, individuals losing homes, we are also in a season where depression and emotional ills are high, said Senior Pastor Vanable H. Moody, II.  "I would pray that this would impact as many families as we possibly could."

The food distribution is Saturday, November 21 at 9 a.m. at the church.

It's located at 9553 Parkway East in Birmingham.

You can just drive up and the bag of food and a frozen turkey will be handed to you.

It's first come, first serve and will last until all of the food is gone.
