The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Tuesday, November 17, 2009.
I don't get it. Why the huge disconnect? We say…I don't do politics…I don't vote. They're all just crooks anyway! We act like politics is a soap opera…a joke…something to watch…talk about…even make fun of.
In fact, the folks in Montgomery and in Washington are making life-changing decisions for all of us…raising our taxes or not…providing healthcare coverage or not… developing programs to improve public education or not…funding police protection or not…creating a job-friendly environment or not…
Like it… or not, the quality of our lives is directly affected by the folks who serve in our state legislature and in Washington. On the national level, they determine who our allies are…they manage military resources and weaponry…their decisions affect our employment levels… how many jobs stay in America and what our immigration policy looks like.
Why would we allow folks we don't respect to handle all of these critical issues? What kind of future can we expect for our families if we don't step up and expect more? When are we going to take our country back?
