Gold prices are high, so people are selling

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Gold prices are soaring and folks are flocking to local jewelers and gold buying events for some extra cash.

An ounce of gold is worth more than $1,000, the highest it's ever been.

Hundreds of people attended the Treasure Hunters Roadshow at the BJCC to sell coins and unwanted jewelry.

Folks waited in line for one and two hours to get inside the event.

Event organizers say they've written some pretty big checks to people.

"My biggest this week was $15,000. That was for gold coins," said Donald Land with the Treasure Hunters Roadshow.

"It's near Christmas, and every little bit helps so I decided to come out see what I can get," said Lois Harris.

Experts aren't sure how long gold prices will remain this high.

Therefore, people are being recommended to sell their valuables now before prices drop.
