BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Acting Mayor Carole Smitherman has made $500,000 in cuts to the Birmingham Mayors Office.
Smitherman, after implementing a hiring freeze earlier in the week, cut appointed employees on the Mayor's staff Thursday. Smitherman said the cuts have to start from the top.
The acting mayor said Mayor Langford's staff consisted of more than 40 employees.
Smitherman became acting mayor two weeks ago after Langford was convicted on felony fraud and bribery charges.
