National Guard confirms identity of AL soldier injured at Ft. Hood

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - A spokesperson for the Alabama Army National Guard has confirmed that a member of the 135th Expeditionary Sustainment Command from Birmingham was injured at the Thursday mass shooting at Ft. Hood.

Major Randy Royer from Dothan was shot and suffered shoulder, leg and knee injuries. A spokesperson for the guard says Royer will require surgery but is expected to recover. Royer and 269 other soldiers left Birmingham this past Saturday.

Royer's wife is currently with him at Fort Hood.
