Twelve dead following Fort Hood shooting spree

FORT HOOD TX, (WBRC) - Twelve people were killed, and 31 were injured after a shooting spree at one of United States' Army's largest posts, Fort Hood. And according to Birmingham News, one of the wounded is from Alabama.

A U.S. Army officer says one of their own is a suspect. Army psychiatrist, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, opened fire around 1:30pm central time.

First reports stated Hasan was fatally wounded while exchanging gunfire. Now, a commander says Hasan was wounded, and  is in custody while receiving treatment at a hospital.

Hasan relocated to Fort Hood after 6 years at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC. Military officials say Hasan received a poor evaluation during his time in Washington.
