ATMORE, AL (WBRC) - David Larry Nelson died Monday night in state prison, serving more than 27 years on death row for the shooting death of a Kimberly woman.
Brian Corbett, public information manager for the Alabama Department of Corrections, notified FOX6 News Tuesday morning of Nelson's death. Corbett said Nelson, 64, was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m. Monday in the infirmary of Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore.
Corbett said Nelson was sentenced to die for the January 1, 1978, shooting death of Wilson Thompson in Kimberly, a suburb of Birmingham. Nelson was also convicted and sentenced to life in prison without parole for the fatal shooting of Birmingham cab driver James Cash the night before.
