New group looks to make affordable, healthy meals for kids

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A group called Slow Food Birmingham challenges local chefs to create healthy, kid-friendly meals that cost just $3.57. Their tests come as Congress considers increasing the cost of a meal at school by one dollar per child. It could make a big difference between processed ingredients and a fresh lunch.

Those who participated in Sunday's challenge say it gives back to the local economy by working with Alabama farmers and producers.

Reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Act is expected to take place in the next few weeks.
