Hueytown Police increase patrols in wake of robberies

HUEYTOWN, AL (WBRC) - Hueytown Police are increasing patrols around businesses after three recent robberies.

Since Friday, two Subway's and a Quizno's were robbed at gunpoint. All were just a day apart.

Three armed suspects are seen in surveillance video holding up the Subway on 19th Street.

One is seen jerking employees to the floor.

Two of the suspects have been caught.

Police are searching for a man in another robbery.

He is caught on tape robbing the Subway on Allison Bonnet Memorial Drive.

The employee behind the register on the video didn't want to be identified but says, "He said give me all your money. He put the shotgun through the sleeve of his jacket he pushed it out."

"He could have shot someone if he wanted to. There were two other customers in here," said 19 year-old Subway employee Houston Foreman.

Hueytown Police Chief Chuck Hagler says it's been quite a while since there's been an armed robbery of a business in the city.

He says police are working to keep businesses safe.

Chief Hagler says the economic conditions may be to blame for the sudden spike in the brazen crimes.
