Senate Democrats against no-bid computer contract

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Democrat lawmakers in the Alabama Senate on Tuesday asked Riley not to okay a $13 million no-bid contract for an out-of-state computer company.

"What good does it this do to have checkbooks on the web  if contract money is going in no bid contracts to people we can't find," Sen. Roger Bedford of Russellville said.

Riley announced in Birmingham Tuesday he would sign the contract with Paragon Source LLC, saying the company has been checked out and there is no impropriety.

Governor Riley instead accused the Democrats of playing politics.

"This is an election year," Riley said. "They are going to tear this administration down. This is politics clear and simple."
