Prayer walk held in Wylam community

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The eighth prayer walk of the year hit the streets of the Wylam community Saturday.

Every week, the chief of police, churches and citizens march through a community that has been hard hit by crime.

Chief A.C. Roper attributes community involvement, which includes these prayer walks, to a reduction in violent crime.

Roper says homicides are down 30 percent.

Rapes are down more than 20 percent.
