Birmingham Dog Park

It has been in the works for several years and today a section of a Birmingham park has now gone to the dogs. A section of Birmingham's George Ward Park off of Greensprings Avenue has been turned into a dog park.

The group "bark for a park" has been working on this dog park for the past two years. Dog parks are becoming more and more popular throughout the United States. A dog park is an enclosed area that allows dogs to run free and socialize with other dogs and their owners.

Dozens of dog owners showed up with their animals. Claudine Graff says "this is great for birmingham, the dogs love it, its like watching kids play, its free and refreshing"

Other cities such as Homewood and Hoover are also considering building a dog park.

The dog park is open to everyone but dog owners must follow specific rules that are posted at the entrance.
