Prosecutor's request to acquire Pettagrue assets denied

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Federal prosecutors will not be able to take some of Samuel Pettagrue's assets from him.

A federal jury convicted the pastor and former State Senator E.B. McClain of bribery, mail fraud and corruption.

Prosecutors say McClain received kickbacks for helping steer state money to Pettagrue's community programs.

Prosecutors wanted to seize Pettagrue's house and car to satisfy a 300-thousand dollar judgement against him. Judge Karon Bowdre denied the request.
