The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
As you start your day...if there was just one thing you could do, guaranteed to make your day better... no money, exercise or diet and very little time involved...would you do it? Can't be...gotta cost something, right?
Well, how about waking up in the morning and spending just a few minutes remembering what you're grateful for.
Why would any of us be grateful? Look at the economy...fears of terrorism...the swine flu...gotta deal with the traffic...folks that don't appreciate or understand us.
Look around you. The best reasons to be grateful can be very simple...if you and your family are blessed with good health, be grateful. If your grass is green this year, after last year's drought...be grateful. If the roads are crowded, but you have reliable transportation, old or new, be grateful. If someone loves you, be grateful.
I am grateful for my wonderful family, for the extraordinary folks I work with here at WBRC...for the beautiful crape myrtles that line our streets. The list is long.
What I know is...that on those days that I take the time to engage my grateful spirit...to remember all that I have to be grateful for...I have a much better day...and I believe... so do the people who have to deal with me.
Let me know what you are grateful for...or let me know if you think this way of thinking is just plain garbage. Either way, I am grateful that you continue watch WBRC even though you've just watched this editorial. Thank you.
