State may close Bryce Hospital, open new hospital in Birmingham

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - The state is considering closing Bryce Hospital in Tuscaloosa and opening a facility in Birmingham.
On Thursday, the Alabama Department of Mental Health board of trustees met at the request of Governor Bob Riley.

The discussion involved the possible sale of Bryce to the University of Alabama and an alternative psychiatric hospital including the former Carraway Hospital in Birmingham.
