Sue Schmitz will not remain free during appeal

DECATUR, AL (WBRC) - A federal judge will not allow former State Representative Sue Schmitz to remain free on bond while she appeals her fraud conviction.

A federal magistrate denied Schmitz's motion Wednesday and ordered her to report to prison Friday, December fourth.

In February, a federal jury convicted Schmitz on fraud charges related to her job with an arm of the state's two-year college system.

The judge sentenced Schmitz to 30 months in prison and ordered her to repay the 177-thousand dollar salary she received.
