BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The Jefferson County Commission agrees to reopen two of the county's four satellite courthouses.
The Center Point and Greensprings locations will reopen Monday, at the recommendation of acting finance director Travis Hulsey. Commissioner Bobby Humphryes did not want to reopen Center Point, saying he thought the citizens would be better served by opening one of the other locations in higher populated areas first. The remaining two courthouses, Gardendale and Forestdale, will remain closed until the county can find the money to open them. The decision will shorten lines at the downtown and Bessemer courthouses, which is good news to taxpayers, who have waited as long as 6 hours to conduct county business.
