Church hoping to operate bingo denied

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A Birmingham church hoping to operate bingo had its application denied Tuesday by the Birmingham City Council.

The House of Joshua had applied for a bingo permit, but city councilors denied the church-based charity bingo operation from opening up shop.

However, Birmingham already issued House of Joshua a business license. Attorneys representing the church said they will likely appeal and said the church may still open up for business.

"I need to talk to my client about that but right now my position is we have a business license and unless someone takes it from me legally then were prepared to open," Attorney Kim Davidson said.

City Councilors also delayed 15 other applications for 2 weeks as councilors try to amend the city's current bingo law.
