BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Jefferson County Commission President Bettye Fine Collins said Wednesday she was confident the county could soon be obtaining a loan from Regions Bank.
If the county does get the loan, Collins said many, if not all, of the employees who are now on unpaid leave would be able to come back to work.
Collins stressed it would be unfair to the workers to give them a timetable as to when this could happen.
Commissioner William Bell said if the county could find $2 million, all of the county workers would be able to get back to work. Bell said he feels the workers will be able to come back earlier than the October 10 date set by the county's human resources.
