Calera council sets new election date

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The city of Calera is one step closer to having a new mayor and city council.

The current council voted tonight to set a new election for November 10th, pending approval by the Department of Justice.

Last November's election was declared invalid by the Justice Department after the city went ahead with those elections using new districts that had not been approved by the federal government.

Jon Graham won that election for mayor and tells FOX6 news tonight he plans to qualify again as a candidate and begin a new campaign.
