BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - One of Birmingham's biggest tourist attractions is wrapping up its season with good news.
This Labor Day was Alabama Adventure's last non-weekend day of the year and park officials say they believe they've welcomed more guests this year than in 2008.
Park officials say the recession may have refocused local families' attentions on finding a relatively inexpensive entertainment option close to home. Their new water ride called "Upsurge" has also brought in new visitors.
The park's new ownership says it would've been an even better year if not for Mother Nature.
"When it comes to the end of the season and we look at our final numbers, we're looking to be up compared to last season," Alabama Adventure spokesperson Bryan McDuff said. "Had we had fewer rain days and a little bit more heat in August and September we would've been considerably up. So we should be up, but had Mother Nature played more in our favor, maybe even higher."
