Historic Birmingham neighborhood getting a new beginning

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A historic Birmingham neighborhood that has fallen on hard times breaks ground on a new beginning.

Saturday afternoon city leaders along with several non-profit groups held a groundbreaking ceremony on a project that will bring 27 new homes to the Titusville neighborhood. The homes will cost between seventy-five and eighty-five thousand dollars.

Those who qualify for the new homes will not have to pay a down payment, any closing costs, and will be eligible for a low interest rate. The only requirement is that the homeowners be able to pay their house payment which on average should be around $550 per month.

Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford said over the next year 200 homes will be built like this throughout the city.
