Search for suspect in credit card thefts

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Hoover police are asking for area residents to help them track down a man they believe is stealing credit cards in Shelby County. They have identified a "person of interest" who they believe stole credit cards in Hoover, Pelham and Calera. He used the cards at several area gas stations and the Calera Wal-mart.

Captain Jim Coker at the Hoover police department said credit card theft is a common and dangerous crime. He said officers are warning people to be cautious.

"Make sure you know where your cards are," said Capt. Coker. "Don't loan them to people.  If you find it is missing, contact your credit card company as soon as possible. Also, notify law enforcement as well."

Area residents agree it's important advice. "I just keep them in my billfold and keep it on my person at all times," said Barry Harrison,"I don't lend it out."

Hoover police say if you have any information on this case call them at (205) 444-7700.
