Power to Save: My Green Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - If you're interested in a greener lifestyle, a new website may offer the information you need.

"Those folks that are learning and trying to get to the point where they want to do more," said Natalie Kelly.

Power to Save reporter Ronda Robinson talked with Natalie Kelly, who launched www.mygreenbirmingham.com in March 2009. It provides articles about eco-friendly businesses, products even a calendar of green themed events.

"Our goal is to give people the outlet and resources they need to live eco-friendly lives," said Kelly.

The site offers a different contest each month. The latest is a green home makeover.

"We got a dual flush toilet, tankless water heater, sustainable landscaping, home energy audit, foam insulation, a lot of stuff up for grabs," said Kelly.

You can enter online, by explaining why your home should be chosen.

"They can give us specifics about their home, when it was built, is it gas or electric. Its really a chance to get creative," said Kelly.

A panel will select the top three finalists and the public will choose the winner.

"The home with the most votes will win and we will move into the home pretty much immediately. We want to demonstrate to people that if you don't want to go out and buy an energy efficient home, there are things you can do in your home that can make it more green."

The contest ends September 4, 2009. For more information visit www.mygreenbirmingham.com.
