Taxpayers to pay for Langford's defense

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A court order says Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford cannot afford to hire an attorney to represent him in his upcoming corruption trial, so taxpayers will pick up the tab.

Federal Magistrate Paul Greene named Mike Rasmussen to represent Langford.

According to the court order, Langford is unable to financially afford an attorney by himself. The document says if a federal prosecutor can prove the Mayor can afford legal representation or part of the bill, they may seek compensation from Langford.
