Date set for Supreme Court to hear Jefferson County job tax case

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The attorney who challenged Jefferson County's occupational tax says the Alabama Supreme Court will hear the case on August 18. Dekalb County Circuit Judge David Rains previouslystruck down the tax. He ruled that the Alabama Legislature repealed the tax in 1999,  but they never legally replaced it.

The loss of the tax has led to a huge financial crisis with Jefferson County. About one third of county workers on unpaid administrative leave.
