BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Several stores will be open at midnight tonight as shoppers take advantage of the state's annual sales tax holiday weekend.
Beginning Friday at 12:01 a.m. and ending at midnight on Sunday, Alabama will hold its fourth annual sales tax holiday, giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers, and clothing free of state sales or use tax.
Local sales and use tax may apply, depending on if a county or city government has decided whether or not to participate. For example, Jefferson County will not participate this year, meaning shoppers in Jefferson County will pay a minimum of two percent tax on school supplies.
