William Bell wants county manager

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Jefferson County Commissioner William Bell said the county commission needs to hire a county manager now instead of waiting for the state legislature to force commissioners to hire one.

Bell told FOX6 News Wednesday a county manager would give commissioners more credibility.

"I think we should take the lead and bring on a county manager at this time, and not wait for the legislature to force it down our throat but take a proactive measure for it," said Bell.

Bell said a new occupational tax would solve the county's financial crisis, even though he said the county has seen a 10 to 15 percent drop in revenue from sales and ad valorem taxes.
